Shirley Dickens Crecca passed away on April 7th, 2022. The only child of James Pickering Dickens and Louise Guynn Dickens, Shirley was born on July 31, 1953. Mrs. Crecca was a fourth generation El Pasoan and was the great-granddaughter of El Paso architect/developer William James Pickering. She was baptized, confirmed and graduated in the first class at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church. She attended Austin High School where she graduated in the top 10% of her class in 1971.
Mrs. Crecca worked at El Paso Natural Gas throughout her 20’s. After devoting time to her family, she refocused her energy on a career at Sierra Medical Center, where she rose from Department of Medical Staff Services to be the Executive Assistant to Mark Fry, the CEO, to eventually becoming the Director of Advertising. After over a decade at SMC, she decided to start her own business, Practice Management Services. Mrs. Crecca was an avid community volunteer generously devoting her time to the El Paso Medical Auxillary, the Junior League of El Paso, the El Paso Symphony Guild and multiple others.
Shirley had many talents. She was an impressive pianist, an accomplished gardener, and enthusiastic numismatist, but perhaps she is best known for her impeccable style. In fact, she served on Seventeen Magazine High Fashion Board and the Popular Fashion Board. Her fashion sense and decorating skills were admired. Furthermore, her knowledge regarding jewelry and gems was extensive.
Mrs. Crecca was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She particularly enjoyed vacationing with her family. In more recent years, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Gerard F. Crecca, MD. She leaves behind her son, Alexander D. Crecca of Albuquerque, NM and her daughter Jasmine Salome Crocker (Gregory A. Crocker) presently of Geronimo, OK. Her grandchildren are Sofia G. Crecca, Isabella G. Crecca, Cason J. Crocker and Hadley G. S. Crocker.
Memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with Eulogy at 7:00 PM, on Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at Funeraria Del Angel Central Chapel, 3839 Montana Avenue, El Paso, Texas 79903.
