Sofia Malandris Buels

June 22, 1927- January 12, 2016, passed away peacefully in the evening of January 12. Sophie, as her loved ones addressed her by, retired from the Popular Dry Goods where she worked as a buyer for over 40 years. She loved to travel and see new places.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Carlos John Malandris and George Malandris, cousin Ninfa Villalobos, and the love of her life, Jesse Buels. She is survived by her cousin Esperanza Ontiveros. She also leaves behind nieces Eva Alvarado, Yvonne Orona, Mary Helen Chavarria, Norma Bustamante, Adela Lopez, Irma Almazan, Maria Garcia and Rita Gutierrez, nephews Carlos Malandris Jr., Robert Villalobos Jr., Eduardo Malandris, Alfred Villalobos and Jorge Magdaleno.

Visitation will be Monday, January 18, 2016 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with vigil at 7:00pm at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 12:45pm at St. Patrick Cathedral. Committal service to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
