Born on September 23, 1945, on the humble dirt floors of his Aunt Cista’s home in Temple, TX, Tom was the cherished first child of Thomas and Juanita Reyna. His childhood was spent between Lubbock and Temple, traveling between the two cities during the summer and winter months. A graduate of Lubbock High School, Tom went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force for four years, stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM, and deployed to Thailand during the Vietnam War.
In the spring of 1969, Tom's life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Lupe, at a dance in El Paso, where Sunny Ozuna and the Sunliners were performing. Their love story blossomed, leading to a marriage that spanned 52 wonderful years. Tom pursued his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and dedicated his career to the City of El Paso and the Water Company as a purchasing agent, managing vendor bid contracts with diligence and integrity. He retired early due to complications from vision loss, yet his spirit remained undeterred.
Tom was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering dedication to his family. His warmth, wisdom, and strength touched the lives of many. A true Jack-of-all-trades, Tom was adept at repairs and maintenance, always eager to learn and solve problems. His children knew they could always call "Dad" for guidance and solutions.
A devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend, Tom cherished his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He delighted in attending his grandchildren’s events, from Color Guard performances to sports games, school lunches, graduations, birthdays, and school plays. His love for food, particularly a great burger, was legendary, and he never missed a chance to visit his favorite BBQ place, Clem Mikeska’s, in Temple.
Tom found joy in traveling, telling jokes, spending time outdoors, and embracing the simple pleasures of life. His laughter and love will be deeply missed.
Phillip was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Juanita A Reyna (2021), his sister, Janie Marie Sanchez (2004), and his father, Thomas Reyna (1980). He is survived by his loving wife, Lupe Reyna, his daughters Tanya (Dallas) and Theresa (El Paso), his son Thomas (Rockwall), and his seven grandchildren: Noelee, Anthony, Matthew, Cruz, Bella, Diego, and Rayne, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
Tom/Phillip will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 5:30 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East. A reception will be held at the funeral home at the conclusion of services.
