

Dorothy (Dottie) Emma Silver (nee Barthel), 87, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Dottie was born and raised in Arbutus, Maryland and lived there for 40 years until remarrying and moving to Rahway, New Jersey, where she lived for 30 years, before relocating back to Ellicott City, Maryland in 2009.
Dottie held various jobs during her lifetime. She was part of the meat cutter’s union for the former A&P Supermarket in Halethorpe, Maryland and the House of Good Shepherd as a food service worker. Additionally, she worked for many years as a food service supervisor at the Woodbridge Developmental Center in Woodbridge, New Jersey, until her retirement.
Dottie definitely had a love and passion for cooking, baking, decorating, entertaining, flea markets, Victorian décor and playing poker. She volunteered many times to organize and run various events at her condominium community center and was fondly known as the “Queen of Hearts”.
She is immediately survived by her three loving sons, Steven J. DeBoy, Sr. (wife Jenny DeBoy) of Halethorpe, Maryland; Timothy D. DeBoy (wife Laura Pingel) of Ellicott City, Maryland; and Brian K. Deeds (his late wife Margaret Forsyth-Deeds) of Titusville, New Jersey; seven beautiful grandchildren: Steven DeBoy, Jr. (wife Molly DeBoy), Mandy DeBoy-Lund (husband Matt Lund), Diana DeBoy-Kean (husband Kevin Kean), Allison DeBoy, David DeBoy, Madelyn Deeds and Bradley Deeds. She is also survived by her five precious great-grandchildren: Jack DeBoy, Bowen DeBoy, Lucas Lund, Parker Kean and Tanner Kean. She was also loved by all her extended family and friends.
Dottie is predeceased by her husband, Martin I. Silver, her parents, Henry & Minnie R. Barthel, her brother, William E. Barthel and her sister, Evelyn M. DeLeonardo.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South Off Route 100) on Saturday, October 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at which time a celebration of life service will begin.
