Joseph Vincent Gervasi was born April 17, 1996 in La Jolla, CA and passed away peacefully in his home in Encinitas, CA on June 6, 2019...... He grew up in Encinitas , CA ; attended Kids by the Sea Preschool, Ocean Knoll Elementary, Oak Crest Middle School and both SDA and LCC High Schools and graduated in 2014 from LCC. A fierce athlete , he participated in all of the YMCA sports programs, including pee wee soccer, basketball, baseball, etc... .. but excelled in Little League Baseball..... Baseball was his first passion and he was an amazing pitcher and was competent at catcher as well...... and in his own words, "being the younger guy playing on the older Allstar team because he excelled in his age group."...He also enjoyed pop warner football and loved the physicality of the game... When a labrum tear took him out of baseball during his Pony ball league, he migrated over to Lacrosse and transitioned back to football and played 1 year of JV and 1 year of Varsity ball back at LCC.. Graduating from high school with honors, he attended Chico State University from 2014 to 2016 and maintained a respectable GPA in the major of Small Business and Entrepreneurship .. His passions were golf, cooking, and he enjoyed all aspects of fishing...He could make an amazing meal with creative sauces and pallet pleasers...He came to love and idolize golf and studied the intricacies of the game in order to achieve the highest level of expertise...--A game he would have easily mastered...As a young lad, fishing was another passion...His patience and perseverance always paid off...Though a thrill seeker by nature, the calm and patience of fishing was a favorite pastime...
"Joey" , "Joseph", "Joe" lived hard and played hard! He always gave it his all!...... but he also loved hard.!.. as friends would say, he was unapologetically raw! In all aspects, he loved to push the limit... He loved his family, his brother Jake, his friends and his dog, Charlie...He would tell his mother, he loved her most of all...
Joe had hoped to go into firefighting after he completed the training in April of this year. He was very excited about this opportunity and worked out daily in the gym..He was in great shape and had a very positive attitude.. Unfortunately, while he was in Sober Living in Temecula, he had broken his right hand...this set back ended the firefighting opportunity until later in the year. His next adventure was going to be a deckhand position on a commercial drift boat out of Kenai, Alaska...that would have started the end of June... God called him home so Joe will be catching lots of fish in Heaven now!
We will miss Joe!... He is survived by his mother, Nancy Gervasi, brother Jake Gervasi, father John Gervasi, his Grandmother Sally Mauldin, as well as his step mother and many loving uncles, aunts, family and close friends.
