My love and sympathy to all of you in Orval’s big family. It was such an honor to have the Kendall family build Bill’s and my home in Little Valley. Even though Bill is not with us now, his memory and spirit are very much alive in that home. I remember Orval’s energy and delight at laying the hardwood flooring. Such enthusiasm and good times! My love goes out to you in your loss of such a truly splendid man. Caryl Conger

Orval built our first house in Estes and then helped Del rebuild after the fire in 2012.
I have great memories of him sweeping during the construction of our new house.
Lots of good memories!

When we first arrived in Estes Park in the Fall of 1976 right after the Big Thompson flood I was hired by the Town of Estes Park as their first certified vehicle mechanic. With a wife and three young boys we had to find housing which turned out to be expensive for the value you received. I asked around who would be a good contractor and ended up talking to Orval about building us a home. We bought the cheapest lot in Carriage Hills on Wilderness Lane and contracted with Orval to build us a home. Jim Beleau did the concrete, Tom Atkins did the electrical, I did the shingles, and all the staining and painting and we moved in the following Spring. It was a great experience working with Orval and we considered him a good friend. He and Orpha were a great couple and were looked upon as valued community members.

I met Orval and Orpha in 1971 when I was 10. I always called him grampa. When we lived on MacGregor Ranch, my parents hired him to do the remodeling of our house. Even decades later, when we had questions about the structure, he knew the answers. I will always remember him as my grampa.
Another angel has gone home leaving behind some of the best memories of my life.
