Living his life his way, Robert “Bob” Grewe left this world Friday, May 17th, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice Grewe 14 years ago and has since wandered in his Winnebago following the advice of Yogi Berra, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” He traveled coast to coast, Mexico to Alaska, stopping unannounced most places, with the single intent of making sure to entice a smile and a laugh from all he met. Bob and Bea both grew up in the Detroit region of Michigan. They met at Tahquamenon Falls in the upper peninsula of Michigan after Bob served in the Army Reserves. They married on January 27, 1951 and moved to Valparaiso, Indiana where he attempted college but was more successful working for Aid Association for Lutherans. He did keep searching, always wanting to meet new people and experience new places. The family was growing and moving about, Chesterton, Indiana, Lake Mills, Wisconsin, Trafalgar, Indiana, Belleville, Illinois, Arvada, Colorado, and he finally chose Estes Park, Colorado in 1970. Bea and the kids put their roots firmly down. Among many endeavors, Bob worked at The Black Canyon Restaurant, ran printing presses, and helped with Orlando’s Steak House at The Wheel. He had to get back on the road and started a career as a long haul truck driver working for Monfort. As he aged, he choose to segue into a taxi business in Estes Park. He never did rest much and his idea of a vacation was to drive by places, point, and keep going. Bob was proud of and loved all of his sons and daughters. He is survived by all six of them. Donna Dayton (Jerome), Mary Biefel, John Grewe (Amy), David Grewe (Tammy), Lois Pratt (Jon), and Paul Grewe (Kim). He is also survived by grandchildren Nikki, Bryce, Roslyn, Wade, Jennifer, Alisse, Carrissa, Eddie, Martha, and Reed, and by great grandchildren Oakley, Jack, Althea, Saylor, Enola, Abagail, Liam, and Millie (with more sure to come!) We are sure he shared the same jokes with many of us many times. One he told often: What is God’s name? Bob would then say “Andy” and start to sing “Andy walks with me Andy talks with me and he tells me I am his own.” Please join us in celebrating this unique fellow. We will gather on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th from 11am-5pm for a Celebration of Bob’s life at the Wheel Bar. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to Doctors Without Borders or Hospice of the Estes Valley in care of Allnutt Funeral Service 1302 Graves Ave. Estes Park, CO 80517.
