passed away of a heart attack. While we are deeply saddened by our loss, his signature smile
that shared warmth and love will never be forgotten.
Rod was born into a loving home in Utah on January 7th, 1962 to Bud and Donna Harwood. He
is survived by Rene Holtslander (Paul), Robin Ledesma (David), Roxann Lee (Russel), and Clint
Harwood (Alyson). In 1986, Rod married the love of his life, Melody. A year later, they had their
first child, Justin Harwood. They later moved to Colorado and had their daughter, Jessica
Gomez (Ryan Gomez). Rod loved being a father, but had an extra special place in his heart for
his grandchildren, Armando and Lorenzo.
What really mattered to Rod was making memories with the people he loved - creating moments
that could be reflected on in a positive way, sharing laughter, and exploring together. Please join
us as we share stories and reflect on Rod's life at Hyde Chapel at YMCA of the Rockies on
February 3rd from 11-2. This will be an open service and anyone who would like to pay their
respects is welcome. Please join us afterward for pizza and ice cream at Murphy's Resort 1650
Big Thompson Ave.
Rod spent 36 beautiful years with his wife, Melody. They enjoyed driving through the mountains
together, stopping to look at the wildflowers and enjoying each other’s company. They loved to
explore the wonders of the world and embrace all the amazing things nature had to offer. A few
of his adventures include the Grand Canyon, Arches, Redwood Forests, and his favorite -
Yellowstone. In Melody’s words, “Rod was always a gentle place for me to fall. He had an affinity for nature and was my life partner. I appreciate how he was loyal and he always put his family first.”
In addition to being a wonderful husband, he was the type of Dad that most people only dream
about. He was the kind of man who would come home from work and leave the stress of the
corporate world behind so he could focus all his attention and energy on his kids. Whether it be
playing catch in the backyard or drawing silly cartoons together at the table, he always made
sure that his kids were enjoying the little things in life. He loved spending time with them. This
quality stuck with him when he became a grandfather. It could be seen in the many things he
took his grandsons to do and the activities he participated in with them. Justin and Jessica said,
“Dad had a child-like wonder for the world and always wanted to share things that were positive
and fun.”
Many people were fortunate to have had the chance to know and love Rod. Here are some of
the touching things his friends and family had to say:
Rene: As a child he was curious, inquisitive, and loved to explore. It stayed with him for the rest
of his life.
Robin: We spent our childhood laughing at his funny tricks which were always lighthearted and
meant to keep us smiling. Rod was always compassionate and had a kind heart.
Roxann: He was creative. Although he was quiet about it, he was really funny.
Clint: He was genuine, kind, and focused on creating lasting memories when together.
Dave: He was the best friend that everyone would want to have. He was smart, caring, and
kind, but most of all he was fun to hang out with.
Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.
We will miss you, we love you.
