Bernard graduated from Painted Post High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in teaching from S.U.N.Y. Oswego—an education that shaped a life marked by steady purpose, service, and quiet dedication. He built a career that reflected both patience and skill, working as a teacher and a printer for T.S.T. BOCES Vocational School and Cornell University.
On June 16, 1951, Bernard married Dorothy C. Nevill. He was preceded in death by Dorothy Preston, his wife of 74 years, whose love and partnership remained central to the story of his life.
Bernard was a member of the Masons, and he carried forward the values of fellowship and commitment in the way he lived. He also found deep enjoyment and meaning in the pursuits that brought him peace and community—photography, golf, and church—each reflecting a life attentive to both the world’s beauty and the bonds that sustain it.
Bernard is survived by his children, Edward and Nancy; his grandchildren, Kelly, Brian, and Ted; and his brother, Gary.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 1st, 2026 at 3PM at the Waterman Village Chapel; 445 Waterman Avenue, Mount Dora, Florida 32757.
