Born to Martin Meybhom and Elenore Meybhom, Carolyn graduated from Hoboken High School and attended college. She shared a close bond with her younger sister, Marjorie Muller—four years apart and devoted to one another in a way that remained a steady thread through her life.
Carolyn spent the majority of her working life as a CNA, bringing steady hands, tireless effort, and a deeply kind heart to the care of others. She also worked at Lipton Tea and served as a manager at Meritta Bread, roles that reflected her dependable work ethic and the practical generosity she showed in everyday life.
On February 20, 1961, Carolyn married Joseph H Shaw. They were married for 30 years until his passing in 1991. Together they had four children, and through Joseph, Carolyn also welcomed four step-daughters into the family—making room with a selfless spirit and a thoughtful, inclusive love. In 1991, she moved to Lake County from Dothan, Alabama.
A woman of faith throughout her life, Carolyn was baptized at St. Matthew's Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoboken, New Jersey. She attended the Triumphant Cross in Dothan, Alabama, and later attended Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, Florida—living her beliefs with compassion, generosity, and quiet steadiness. Her care for others extended beyond her own household; she organized a disaster relief food and supply drive for hurricane victims, offering help in a way that was practical, immediate, and heartfelt.
Carolyn’s love for family was the center of her days. Known as “Mama Hen” to her children, she spoke with them several times a day, keeping close with a devotion that was both steadfast and tender. She was famously thoughtful—always remembering birthdays and special occasions—and she carried a warm sense of humor that could brighten ordinary moments. She also had an uncanny sense of hearing, a small but memorable detail that family and friends will long associate with her presence.
In retirement, Carolyn devoted herself to caring for her grandchildren and to the pleasures that made life feel full: travel, visits with family, and gatherings that brought everyone together for holidays and shared meals. She loved cooking and good food, and she delighted in the simple fun of scratch off tickets—often said to be very lucky. Her adventurous spirit showed in her love of going to Greenwood Lake and the family cabin in New Jersey, places that held cherished memories and welcomed return. She also loved animals and always had a dog; pets were always waiting at the door to greet her when she came home, a comfort she returned with constant affection.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H Shaw; her parents, Martin and Elenore Meybohm; her sister, Marjorie Muller; her step-daughter, Myra Loritsch; and her granddaughter, Mari Alice Shaw.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn E. Rogers (Earl) of Eustis, Fl.; her sons, Christopher M. Shaw (Judy) of Slocomb, AL, James W. Shaw of Dothan, AL, and Fred J. Shaw (Weena) of Grand Island, FL; and her step-daughters, Diane Sewell of Dothan, AL, Lily Long of Columbia, MO, and Teresa Cochran of Dothan, AL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Crystal, Matthew, Anthony, Brandi, Stacy, Cheri, Micah, Lydia, Michael, Sandy, Jenny, Jared, Jason, Joe, and John; and by many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
Carolyn will be remembered for a life shaped by faith, sustained by hard work, and given meaning through compassion and generosity—offered freely, often quietly, and always with love.
A Memorial Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, Florida on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
