Born on March 5, 1952, in Antigo, Wisconsin, Karen was the daughter of the late Lyle and Margaret Schilcher. She later made her home in both Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and Eustis, Florida. A 1970 graduate of Antigo High School, Karen went on to build a life centered around family, friendship, and the things she loved most.
Karen dedicated her life to meaningful work and service. She began her career at GTE, where she worked as an operator, in customer service, and later as an engineer. She eventually joined WPS, working in the call center, where she remained until her retirement. Throughout her career, she earned the respect of colleagues for her strong work ethic, kindness, and professionalism.
In 2015, Karen purchased her Florida home, settling just a few houses away from a childhood friend. She stayed deeply connected to her family and friends always offering support, encouragement and love. She cherished the relationships she built throughout her life and took great joy in keeping those bonds strong.
Karen enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies, including shopping, gardening, bingo, attending concerts, going to car shows, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and shopping (mentioned twice for a reason). She also loved NASCAR and treasured time spent with her neighbors and friends.
She carried her faith with her in a humble, steady way, drawing strength from it in both ordinary days and difficult moments.
Karen shared 27 years with her loving companion, Rick Augustine. Their partnership was one of deep loyalty, humor, and everyday devotion. Together they built a life filled with companionship, shared routines, and the quiet, steady love that comes from decades spent side by side.
Her beloved dog, Ford, held a special place in her heart and brought her endless companionship and happiness. Above all, her greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and celebrated whole heartedly. Known affectionately as “Queenie,” she spent countless hours on the phone, staying closely connected to those she loved.
Karen is survived by her loving companion, Rick Augustine; her children, Michelle (Todd) Geary, Marc (Janel) Meverden, Shawn Ably, and Joe (Kristin) Augustine; and her grandchildren, Mason (Rachel) Geary, Madison (Andrew) Alesauskas, Hannah Meverden, Isaac Meverden, Samuel Meverden, Lila Augustine, and Jak Augustine. She was also a proud great grandmother to Talen, Tate, and Teague Alesauskas. She is further survived by her siblings, Cora King, Al (Sue) Schilcher, and Mike (Val) Schilcher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Milton and Lucille Augustine.
Karen will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, warmth, and love for life will always be remembered.
A gathering to honor and remember Karen will be held at a later date. Additional details will be announced once arrangements are complete.
In lieu of flowers or monetary gifts, we ask that you consider making a donation to your favorite charity in Karen's name.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers, support, and love during this incredibly difficult time.
