Rev. Richard M. “Dik” Hatfield entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 1, 2026, leaving behind his earthly “dirt bag,” as he so affectionately called his body. His greatest hope became his eternal reality.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Glenna Hatfield, and by his nephew, Roy Willson.
He is survived by his ridiculously loving wife of 46 years, Mary Hatfield, who now carries forward a lifetime of cherished memories. He also leaves behind his daughters: Christina Sprinkle and her husband, Matthew; Becky Hatfield; and Jamie Hulett and her husband, Nick. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Kathy Clark and family. He loved his family deeply and considered them one of God’s greatest blessings.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 25, 1955, Richard graduated from Worthington High School in 1973. In 1980, he married the love of his life, Mary. That same year, in what became one of his favorite stories to tell, he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ in the back room of a Super Duper grocery store. That decision forever changed the course of his life and became the foundation for everything that followed.
Ordained through Jerry Savelle Ministries, Richard devoted his life to teaching, preaching, and encouraging others in their walk with Christ. In 1982, he founded Healing Touch of Love Ministries, through which he taught countless people about God’s love, grace, healing, and the finished work of Jesus Christ. He also taught at Bible college, wrote his book "Hope Abides" to encourage believers, and faithfully led weekly Bible studies for 43 consecutive years. His consistency reflected the faithfulness that defined his life.
In 1997, Richard and Mary moved to Central Florida, where he worked at Golden Gem before beginning a long career with the City of Umatilla. Through diligence, integrity, and servant leadership, he retired as the Assistant Public Works Director. Whether serving in ministry or public service, Richard believed every job was an opportunity to honor God and love people well.
Richard was a faithful member of Lake Haven Church in Eustis, Florida, where he continued to encourage and disciple others throughout his life. He will be remembered as a teacher, speaker, writer, and a man whose confidence rested firmly in the finished work of Jesus Christ. He loved to laugh, loved to tell stories, and found joy in shocking you with his wonderfully dry wit and unexpected sense of humor.
He was a gifted photographer, enjoyed playing the guitar, taking long drives with no particular destination, and spending hours daydreaming about Heaven. He loved dogs, and always had room for ice cream!
This mighty man of valor fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.
To those he loved, perhaps his parting words would simply be: “Carry on, my wayward sons and daughters.”
And now, at last, he has heard the words he longed for all his life: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Welcome home.
