Barbara attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Bosse High School in 1954. She graduated from Evansville College with a teaching degree in 1958. Barbara taught second grade at Washington Grade School for three years. After raising her three children, she went on to receive her master’s degree from the University of Evansville. She was a substitute teacher for approximately 35 years at Scott Elementary School and thought of the teachers there like family. She always remembered former students even many years after she taught them. She also tutored students for several years.
Barbara was a member of the Beta Sigma Omicron sorority. She had a beautiful soprano voice, and sang in the Evansville College Choir, Mr. Hyatt’s choir at Bosse and several weddings.
Barbara was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Daughters of the Nile, Isis Temple. She was a former member of Eastern Star, where she and her mother would do many musical programs.
Barbara was a member of the former St. James East United Methodist Church, where her parents had been charter members. There she served as the children’s choir director, sang in the choir and was a member of the handbell choir. As a result of a merger of two churches, she was a charter member of the McCutchanville Community Church: A United Methodist Fellowship, where she continued to sing in the choir.
She loved attending her grandchildren’s activities, whether it was a musical program or sporting event. For the past 10 years, she and her husband traveled extensively with a group of close friends from their church.
The family would like to thank her many caregivers during her illness, including Dr. Ballou and his staff, Dr. Gilson, Doctors and staff at Orthopaedic Associates, staff at Hamilton Pointe, and Visiting Nurse Association including their Hospice care.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bobby Rundell, and a granddaughter, Renee Worthington.
