Betty W Westlund Hallenberger

Betty was a native of Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. She married Raymond J. Hallenberger on October 20, 1945, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Indianapolis.

Upon moving to Evansville, Betty's love of bowling led her to be a founding member of the Jaycee Wives Bowling League. She served as their first President at Franklin Lanes. She later bowled for many years in several leagues at Arc Lanes and it was her favorite sport, with golf a close second. She was a former member of the Evansville Country Club Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association, serving as Secretary in 1968. Betty and her husband were also long time members of the Evansville Kennel Club.

After her children entered school, she supported their achievements by actively participating in the Dexter, Hebron, & Harrison PTA organizations. Betty was a former member of the Central Turners Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, Lady Elks, Eagles Auxiliary, Sinawik Club and Oak Leaves Bridge Club. She was an avid Bridge & Contract Rummy Card player. She was a founding member of St. John's East United Church of Christ in 1960, along with her husband Ray.

Betty was a loving wife & best friend to her husband of 68 years, serving as an officer in Hallenberger Inc., a truck equipment business. She was a strong, remarkable woman who considered her family and home the cornerstone of her life.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ray; brother, Robert, and her parents.

She is survived by three children; Linda Hillenbrand, Sylvia (Bernard) Klein, and Don Hallenberger; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one niece.

Our family would like to thank the administration & staff of Newburgh Healthcare for their loving support during her years there; also Heritage Hospice for their tenderness during her last months.

Private services and burial will be held at Alexander Memorial Park.
