Obituary of Candace R Martin
Candace Martin was a lady who loved to "CELEBRATE LIFE". Candace Martin, 65, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Candace was born in Evansville, on April 22, 1947 to Raymond and Bernice Mayer. Candace is preceded in death by her parents. Candace is survived by her husband of 25 years, Paul Martin of Evansville, IN; daughters, Laurie Marshall (John) of Charlotte, NC, Lisa Painter (Dean) of Raleigh, NC, Leslie Pickens (Robert) of Wilmington, NC, Drs. Sarah Martin Dooley (Cole) of Jacksonville, FL , Son, Paul Martin Jr. (Meghann) of Evansville, IN; sister, Penny Crick (Grodie); father and mother-in-law, Francis J. and Mary Elizabeth Martin; brother-in-law, Michael Martin (Rita); sister-in-law, Mary Pigman (Bill), brother-in-law, Jim Martin (Denise), sister-in-law, Ann Bitter (Tim); grandchildren, Tiffany Donelle Cobb, Taylor Raye Marshall, Zachary John Marshall, Hannah Morgan Pickens, Tyler Cole Pickens; nephews, Josh Crick (Lilly) and Bryan Crick. A loving wife, mother, sister, Nana, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law and friend. Affectionately known as "Candy" to many and "Little Miss Sunbeams" to her husband Paul. She brought energy and life to everyone she touched. Her beautiful blue eyes brightened countless hearts. Candace loved Evansville. She served the city in many different roles from The Freedom Festival, Girls Little League, Frog Follies, Ellis Park Foundation, Thunder on the Ohio, The Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau and several other Foundations and Organizations. She attended Crossroads Christian Church and gave her time to anyone in need without hesitation. To provide for her family Candace offered childcare services during the day and worked as a waitress at Haub's steakhouse in the evenings. She began her professional career in hotel sales and became the first female hotel General Manager in the Holiday Inn Corporation. She then worked with Mr. John Dunn to create the new (Eastside) Gateway to Evansville. Candace continued working with the Dunn Group as the Director of Sales. In the early 90's she turned her love for sales, new homes and people to the Real Estate Market. She quickly became one of Evansville's best known and successful Real Estate Agents. She retired in 2008 to begin her courageous battle with ovarian cancer, which she fought with dignity and a positive attitude. Her battle was won Monday August 13th @ 11:45 AM. Her family would like to thank all of her amazing friends that supported her in endless ways throughout this journey. They would also like to thank Dr. Ricky Ballou and his staff for the compassionate care they provided the last 4 years. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, August 17, 2012 at Crossroads Christian Church, 10800 Lincoln Avenue, Newburgh, IN 47630. Entombment will be held at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.Friends may visit from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Crossroads Christian Church in "The Chapel".
