Our father, Donald B. Ingle, Sr., died peacefully in his sleep on November 12, 2016, at the age of 95. This was not his intention. In the midst of a heart attack while traveling in Europe several years ago, he delayed returning because he was enjoying himself. After a subsequent quadruple heart by-pass, when his doctor told him his newly patched heart should be good for another 20 years, Dad resolved to live until at least 105. Two months ago, he signed up for an annual membership at Bob's Gym. One week ago, he decided it was time to get the latest iPhone. Dad enjoyed his life, his Loves, his friends, and the latest novels by his favorite authors. He will miss everyone. But he is in the hands of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, now.
To Mr. and Mrs. William D. Ingle, in 1921, Don was born and spent most of his life here in Evansville. He attended Northwestern Military Academy and Purdue University, dropping out to serve as a Combat Officer in WWII. There he was among the American heroes who stormed Anzio from the sea.
In 1945, he happily married our beloved mother, Doris Susan Biggs. She preceded him in death in 1993.
Also preceding him in death were his brothers, William D. Ingle, Jr. and Kenneth Ingle; his sister, Jane Fleig and his twin brother, Bradford.
He is survived by his three children, Barbara (and Marc) Landy, Donald B. (and Anita) Ingle, Jr., and Glenn Ingle, as well as his four grandchildren, Lauren Courtney, Natalie Ingle, and Nathan and Ariel Landy. He is also survived by his partner of 21 years, Helen Thorson.
Don was a long-time Evansville businessman, a President of the Evansville City Council, where he was instrumental in the development of Roberts Municipal Stadium, and a President of the Rotary Club of Evansville, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was a lifetime member of the Evansville Country Club, where he enjoyed the Friday meetings of the POETs, and where he and Doris Susan were avid golfers.
After he retired, Don became a renowned sculptor. His works include the sculpture of William Tell now sitting in the Town Square of Tell City, Indiana, busts of most of the past Presidents of Purdue University, and a bust of one of our Governors of Indiana and his friend, Robert Orr.
He wished that any memorial contributions be made to the Evansville Museum of Arts, History, and Science, 411 SE Riverside Dr. Evansville, IN 47713.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2200 Mesker Park Dr., Evansville, IN 47720. Please meet at 10:45 at the entrance to proceed to the grave site. Ziemer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He will be dearly missed,
