On March 12th 2013 Dorothy M (Nicholson) Higdon has completed her journey with us to meet the love of her life, Ezra "Bud" Higdon and our Lord. She was brought into the world on March 31, 1914, and lived a long, fulfilling and joyous life raising her three sons.
She leaves a loving family; Conrad and Carolyn of Santa Claus IN, Michael Higdon and Joan Zimmerman of Flagstaff, AZ, John and Jamie Higdon of Lavinia, TN. She has 15 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
Over the years she has been involved in the Nicholson family markets and Federal Produce Co. She also instilled into her children the value of education – hard work – good morale habits and values, and a love for God and Country. Many times saying, "Pass it on!" She believed that each should know Jesus as their savior and look to him for guidance. To show her love for her Lord and others, she was involved in family, community and world ministry. Her involvement included serving as President of the Vanderburgh County PTA, World Council of Churches, National and International Mission projects through United Methodist Women. These interests led her to become a Manager of Schnutte & White Oak Manor low income housing. She enjoyed serving their needs, listening to their problems and assisting them in finding a solution. One of her proudest achievements was returning to night school at Central High at the age of 59 years old and completing her education with straight A's.
The family is thankful for the caring help and assistance of Solarbron, Good Samaritan Home and Deaconess Hospice.
Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday, March 15, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
