

Eldon Hankins, 77, of Evansville, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, June 4, 2016, at his home. He was born March 26, 1939, in New Haven, IL, to the late Auburn and Beulah (Ritcheson) Hankins.
He went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad in the 1960's and remained with them until his retirement. After moving to Evansville, Eldon met the love of his life, Dortha Mayhugh of Central City, KY. They were married May 1, 1957. They were married for 53 years before she preceded him in death. Out of this marriage came four children, two daughters, and two sons. Eldon was a loving and very devoted family man who always had a kind word for everyone he knew. He never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife, Dortha, Eldon was preceded in death by his eldest son, Timothy E. Hankins; grandson, Timothy E. "Timmy" Wharton; brother, John; sister, Patricia; and his parents.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Brad) Tillman, Ricky (Theresa) Hankins and Tracy (Darren) Wharton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Norman; and sister, Carla.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by George King, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Thursday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
