

She was a 1941 graduate of Central High School and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was a homemaker who always put family first and was always there when someone needed her. She was a devoted wife and the perfect mother – understanding and supportive, but never interfering. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Esther was accomplished at cooking, sewing, crocheting, crafts and canning. She enjoyed Bingo, PTA and Phi Mu Mothers Club. She took great pleasure in entertaining the family and decorating her home at Christmas. Wherever she went, she lit up the room with her beautiful smile. Esther loved animals, especially dogs.
Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Edward Gilbert Schmitt; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Giles and son-in-law, Ron Giles of Evansville; grandsons, Jim (Amy) Giles of Yorktown Heights, NY and Justin (Lori) Giles of Franklin, TN; great-grandchildren, Noah, Ian, Maya and Evan Giles; and nieces, Diane and Jeanne Destefani of New Philadelphia, OH.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Fr. Ron Kreilein, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
