James "Jim" Edward Mears, 80, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
Jim was born in Herrin, Illinois on August 16, 1932 to the late Elton E. and Myrtle I. (Whiteside) Mears. Jim graduated from Reitz High School in 1952 and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Jim worked at Ideal Dairy from '52-'64, Alcoa from '64-'93 and Old National Bank from '94-'09, where he made many friends. Jim was a member of the American Legion, the 25 Year Club at Alcoa and the Men's Club at Fendrich Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished woodworker. Jim was an active member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ for 49 years. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Charlotte "Joanne" (Evans) Mears; daughters, Lydia Fowler (Anthony), Nona Justice (Jeff); son, Brad Mears; grandchildren, Molly and Maggie Fowler, Reed and Janna Justice; sister, Mary Ann Dugan; brother-in-law, Norman Evans, all of Evansville, IN; and by his nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bob and Clyde Mears.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN with Jim's minister, Stephen Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be conducted.
