Jesse R Groves

Jesse Ross Groves, age 91, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his home. Jesse was born July 6, 1921 in Graham, KY to the late, Thomas and Jenna (Durrall) Groves. Mr. Groves had worked for Bucyrus Erie for 31 years before retiring in 1982. He was a member of New Bethel Southern Baptist Church. Jesse was a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force serving during World War II and a member of VFW Post #1114. Surviving Jesse are his wife of 15 years, Hazel (Drury) Groves; a daughter, Sandra Gish and son, Jerry Groves, both of Evansville; stepson, Daniel (Jackie) Proctor of Carmel, IN; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Casey) Groves and Steven (Paige) Groves and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Groves in 1990; second wife, Helen Groves in 1997; two sisters, Helen Birdwell and Hazel Belcher and brother, Frank Groves. Funeral services for Jesse will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Mark Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
