

John L. Stephan, 81, of Newburgh, IN, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Golden Living Center – Woodlands in Newburgh. He was born July 9, 1933, in Elberfeld, IN, to the late Henry L. and Lorene C. (Kissel) Stephan.
He worked at Alcoa for 29 years before retiring in 1993. Prior to Alcoa, he worked at Swift & Company Meat Packing for 11 years. He was a member of Aluminum & Gas Workers Local 104. John was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman, animal lover, a talented carpenter and horse racing enthusiast. He was very generous and loved his family very much. He always put others before himself.
John was preceded in death by his parents; one infant daughter and one infant son; brother, Hank Stephan; and sister, Anita Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Banko) Stephan; daughters, Lisa Stephan and Cindy Mrozinski (Greg); son, Randal Stephan (Suzieta); grandchildren, Stephani and Brad Mrozinski, Goran and Eldon Stephan; brother, Bill Stephan (Margie); sisters, Ruth Ann Owen (Mick) and Virginia Heidorn; and nieces and nephews.
His family would like to send a very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Woodlands for their care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 22, 2015, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Rev. Bernard Etienne with burial at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 2-6 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
