Martha Evelyn (Gill) Russell, 85, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
Martha was born in Mexico, Kentucky on January 18, 1928 to the late Cecil H. and Jewell (Martin) Gill. Martha had wonderful memories of growing up on the family farm in Marion, Kentucky. After moving to Evansville she went to work for Woolworths, then to Fautless Caster where she met her husband of 29 years, John Russell. Martha retired from Deaconess Hospital where she was the switchboard operator. Martha enjoyed reading, growing vegetables and flowers and she was a great cook. She loved all of her grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her son, Gary Russell (Barbara); daughter, Brenda Williams; sister, Shirley Byford; brother, Donnie Gill (Marie); grandchildren, Stefanie Swallows (Bob), Johnathan Williams (Sarah), Joe Williams (Nichole), Laura Williams and Hannah Williams; 8 great-grandchildren.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Russell, son, David Lee Russell, sister, Dorothy Hughey and brother, Kenneth Gill.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2800 Hartmetz Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47712 with Rev. Tyrone Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 9:30 AM until service time on Thursday at the church.
