Mary Esther (Pruitt) Brenton, 90, of Evansville passed away at 6:54 am, Friday, June 10, 2016 at West River Health Campus.
Esther was born in Evansville on November 8, 1925 of Kendle C. and Hazel I. (Cater) Pruitt. She was a graduate of Cynthiana High School and attended Bramwell Business College. She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church and First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Esther and her late husband Roy owned The Midget Links miniature golf course on Morgan Avenue for 52 years from 1947 until 1998. They also owned and operated The Midget Links in Crestwood (St. Louis), MO from 1960 until 1979. She worked at George Koch & Sons from 1943-1945 and at Igleheart’s for several years until 1959.
Esther was very involved in her community and was a member of many organizations including Eastern Star Chapter No. 555, Daughters of the Nile Isis Temple No. 41 (over 50 years), Order of the Amaranth, and White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Esther enjoyed playing bridge for many years. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Roy A. Brenton, in 1983, her sister Dorothy Vaught in 2014, and sister, June Redden.
She is survived by sons, Larry A. Brenton (Deborah) of St. Louis, MO and Kent L. Brenton (Marilyn) of Wadesville, IN; grandchildren, Reverend Dr. Louis M. Brenton (Monica) of Memphis, TN, Tyler W. Brenton and Olivia L. Brenton of Wadesville, IN; great grandchildren, Israel, Gabriel, Hannah, and Esther Brenton; sister, Bettye Becker of Evansville and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of West River Health Campus and Gentiva Hospice for their friendship and care of Esther.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, June 13, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor Dave Mills officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 3 pm until 7 pm, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel where Daughters of the Nile, Isis Temple No. 41 will conduct a Memorial Service at 6:30 pm.
