

He retired from Jerry's Market then worked as a route carrier for the Evansville Courier. Later in life, he delivered auto parts for Automotive Wholesalers. Melvin loved to fish, frog gig and enjoyed auto racing. He was a proud Baptist and had a passion for the Lord.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Jane Lewis; son, DeWayne Paul Lewis; sisters, Doris, Jeannie and Arlene; and brother, Jimmy.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Jeff McCuthan) Samuel; daughter, Janet (Dale "Stoney") Willis; son, Michael Lewis; daughter, Kristi Lewis; daughter-in-law, Joyce Lewis; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha (Jerry) Pratt and Margie (Buddy) Mills; sister-in-law, Bonnie Reeves; and brothers-in-law, James (Tonia) Hawkins and Tom (Leyette) Hawkins.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Fr. Jerry Pratt, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
