Patty was born October 16, 1931 to Jack and Mayme Waelde, the youngest daughter of
twelve children. She was born and raised in the house that her grandfather built over one
hundred years ago. Patty attended Tekoppel grade school and graduated from Reitz High
School in 1950. She and Leon were married June 2nd, 1951. Their favorite vacation was
going to the covered bridge festival in Rockville, Indiana.
Patty and Leon owned and operated Pat’s Ceramics where she taught Ceramic classes.
Patty was a very good cook, she was taught by the ”pro”, her grandma Menson who lived
with her and her family. Patty would always cook large dinners at Thanksgiving and
Christmas for her family. She and Leon would bake cookies at Christmas for the family,
neighbors and friends. Patty also loved to play cards with her family.
Patty was a member of Bethel Temple.
Surviving Patty are her daughter and son-in-law, Debby and Randy Highman and a son,
Robin Rexing, both of Evansville, also a sister in law, Bea Waelde of Louisville, KY;
several nieces and nephews. Also the four cats she loved, Missy, Maddy, Marty and
Muffy.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leon C. Rexing in 2011 and by
her parents, Jack and Mayme Waelde, her grandparents, William and Anna Menson and
nine brothers, Melbourne, Harold, Jack, William, John, Charles, James and Robert (Bobby
Joe) and a baby brother Donald. Two sisters, Mildred Smith and Katherine McDivitt also
passed away before her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Pierre
Funeral Home, Rev. David Schwambach and Rev. Joseph Fraccaro officiating.
Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Monday at Pierre Funeral
Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
