Richard was born in Chatham, New York on August 15, 1929 to the late Harmon B. and Anna
Laura (Jagoe) Hicks. In his early years, he worked with his twin brother, Don at Commercial Barge
Line and retired from Whirlpool as an machinist after many years of service. Richard was a
member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Evansville where he was a head usher for many
years. He was also a member of the National Guard and a Boy Scout leader. Richard enjoyed
attending Reitz football games, woodworking, working on old cars, and was a CB radio
enthusiast. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his brother, Don.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard C. Hicks (Nancy), David Hicks (Gayle), Katherine
Martyn (Russell) all of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Leandra (Hicks) Adye (Arthur III), Alyssa
(Hicks) Storrer (Logan), Erin Hicks, Justin Hicks, Erik Hicks (fiancé, Brittany Bredemeier), Kara
(Martyn) Baker (Ben), Mason Martyn; great grandchildren, Addison Hicks, Miles Adye; brother,
Don Hicks (Alta) of Evansville, IN; fiancé, Edna Kasper of Evansville, IN; and several nieces and
nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie (Werner) Hicks in 2013; his
parents; and a sister, Betty.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Browning Funeral
Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Karl Crowe and Dr. Bill Wassner
officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Browning
Funeral Home and again from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday.
