

He retired as manufacturing manager of the Lavergne Division of Whirlpool in June 1994 after 30 years of employment. He was also a retired Chief Warrant Officer of the US Army, retiring in 1997 and serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. Robert was a life member of VFW Post #1114 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #8, US Army Retiree Council of Ft. Knox, KY, Air force Security Force Association, Moroccan Connection – US Forces, Riverbend Association, Indiana National Guard Alumni Association, and MOAA. Robert was twice decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal; was appointed Tennessee Colonel by Gov. Lamar Alexander; was the first member of the US Air Force to be awarded all honors for Air Force Leadership Training in 1967; received Outstanding Airman of the Year in 1967 for the US Air Force; was recognized in "Who's Who in American Colleges" for academic achievement at Lockyear College of Business; and was assigned to the Air Force Honor Guard at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, SC. He was assigned to the security detail providing Presidential Security for President John Kennedy during visitation to Washington State in 1962 at Larson Air Force Base. Robert had also been given the special assignment of being a "Loaned Executive" from Whirlpool to United Way of Middle, TN in 1992. He was a 1955 graduate of Reitz High School and 1997 graduate of Lockyear Business College.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jerry Fetscher, Linda Fetscher, Don Shrode, and Carol Fetscher; first wife, Theresa Brown-Fetscher; and second wife, Rebecca Wade-Fetscher.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (David) Dockery of Wadesville and Janet (James) Hatcher of Mt. Vernon; son, Jim (Michelle) Fetscher; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Sharon Reynolds and Steve (Brenda) Fetscher; significant other, Montie Gish; and many, many friends.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Linda Presley, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veteran's Memorial Club will conduct military honors. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
