Thomas "Tom" G. Griggs, 55, of Evansville, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, June 22, 2013. He was born August 2, 1957, in Evansville, to Joanna (Boyken) Wollenmann and the late Tommy Lee Griggs.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Not a day went by that didn't spend time with at least one of them. Everyone was his friend; he made friends everywhere he went. When he was able to he loved to get in a car and travel with Kelly, whether it was down the road or out West. When Tom was younger he enjoyed working on cars and racing them. He also liked camping and 4-wheeling. The last few years Tom battled a lot of health issues. Muscular Dystrophy and Diabetes both led to heart problems and Congestive Heart Failure. Tom walked as long as he could. When he went to the wheelchair, getting around was more difficult. So, he spent more time at home, a home that Tom spent a lot of his younger years remodeling.
Tom was preceded in death by his step-fathers, Mark Gatewood and Al Wollenmann; and niece, Miranda Simmons.
Tom is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kelly Griggs; daughters, Lyndsey and Leah Griggs; mother, Joanna Wollenmann; sister, Jeanne Datzman; brother, Rob Floyd; grandchildren, Justus Ricketts, Cayden Griggs, Byron Arnold and Alyvia Siniard; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 28, 2013, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, with entombment to follow. Friends may visit Friday from 11:00 AM until service time at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Diabetes Association.
