Amy Bybee Hymas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at Beehive Homes Assisted Living in Grand Junction, Colorado on January 25, 2023. Born on January 11, 1926, in Trenton, Utah, she joined the family of Frank Arthur Bybee and Eva Campbell Bybee as the sixth of nine children.
Amy married Leo Dean Hymas on June 30, 1947, in the Logan, Utah Temple. She and Leo raised four children. She gave them the freedom to roam and taught them many important life lessons and spiritual truths. Amy spent her life in the service of her family and the Lord.
She has served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, working with the children in Primary, the Young Women, and the Relief Society on ward and stake levels for many years. Amy and Leo served a church mission in the Seattle area and also served in the Seattle Temple for several years.
Amy was a wonderful cook, and when the children were older she worked for many years in the University of Washington Medical Center, one of only two metabolic cooks in the State of Washington. She was also an avid reader, an accomplished painter, and an amazing seamstress. She created many elegant quilts including a special quilt for each grand child. She loved cultivating and arranging flowers – especially roses.
Amy will always be remembered for her love of people and her constant positivity and sweetness. She loved and served her neighbors in San Diego, Denver, Logan, UT and Issaquah, WA. Upon retirement, she and Leo moved to Whidbey Island, WA. Everyone who knew her has been lifted by her kind and loving words and actions. She truly leaves a legacy of love.
Amy is preceded in death by her eight siblings and her husband, Leo. She is survived by her four children; Launa (Robert) Noll, Neil (Nancy), Merle (Tina) and Lance (Kari); 16 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 11:00am at the Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE 240th St, Kent, WA 98042.
