Bashir Elwin, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday in Lahore Pakistan January 6, 2025.
She was born on January 8, 1947 in Burewala, Pakistan.
Bashir attended Mission Girls High School in Sahiwal, Pakistan, and earned her nursing degree from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan.
On July 23, 1971, she married Elwin Lal in Pakistan, and they shared a devoted and loving marriage for 53 years.
In 1973, Bashir and her family moved to Libya, where she served as a nurse for 25 years. After her time in Libya, she and her husband moved to the United Kingdom, where they lived for four years. Later, they relocated to Nairobi, Kenya, with their children and lived there for another four years.
In 2007, Bashir moved to the United States, living in several states before making Seattle, Washington, her home.
At the age of 42, while living in Libya, Bashir experienced a miraculous healing from 15 years of chronic asthma. Shortly after, she had a vision in which she saw the words of Hebrews 12. At the time, she was unfamiliar with the scripture, so she sought guidance. A family friend eventually identified it as a verse from the Bible’s book of Hebrews.
This verse profoundly transformed her life, leading her to follow Christ in a deeply biblical way.
In September 1989, Bashir surrendered her life to Christ in Tripoli, Libya. On Friday, September 29, 1989, she was baptized in the Mediterranean Sea in Tajura, Libya, located 14 miles east of Tripoli.
Bashir dedicated her life to sharing the gospel with people from all walks of life, including Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, atheists, and agnostics. She treated everyone with love, respect, and kindness, never discriminating against anyone.
She was a proud grandmother of six grandchildren: two residing in Pennsylvania, three in Washington, and one in Saudi Arabia.
Bashir is survived by her beloved husband, Elwin Lal.
