Donald Edwin Chase

May 4, 1937 – November 23, 2025
Obituary of Donald Edwin Chase
IN THE CARE OF

Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery

Donald E. Chase, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected community leader, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23rd, after a brief battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 88 years old.

Born May 4, 1937, in Portland, OR, to Dr. Edwin B. Chase and Minnie Elizabeth (“Betty”) Chase, Don grew up in the Everett and Mukilteo area and graduated from Everett High School. He went on to attend the University of Washington, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Don built an illustrious career in commercial real estate financing, beginning at Seattle First National Bank, where he also met the love of his life, Donna. Over the course of his professional journey, he played a pivotal role in financing many landmark projects, including the first Costco, the Kingdome, and numerous prominent office developments throughout the region. His expertise extended internationally, where he contributed to financing efforts abroad, leaving a lasting impact on both local and global communities.

Later in life, Don dedicated himself to public service and community advocacy. He served in the Coast Guard and after being honorably discharged in 1962 transitioned into service with the Auxiliary Coast Guard until 1996. He also served on the City of Everett Planning Commission and worked with the Kitsap County Housing Authority, specializing in housing preservation efforts for HUD. A passionate advocate for affordable housing, he frequently traveled to Washington, D.C., to champion revitalization initiatives and ensure properties remained accessible to low-income families. His commitment to fairness and opportunity touched countless lives.

Don’s adventurous spirit was evident from childhood, when he joined his family on boating excursions throughout the Puget Sound. After picking up a new boat in Michigan the family traversed through the inland waterways and out to Boston where they lived aboard a Chris Craft boat while his father did further medical training in Boston. He carried this love of exploration into adulthood, sharing it with his own family through boating trips to the cherished cabin in British Columbia, cross-country road trips, and visits to national parks. These journeys created treasured memories and instilled in his children and grandchildren a deep appreciation for travel, nature, and togetherness.

Above all, Don was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna; his children Todd Chase, Christopher Chase, Leann Bachmeier (Marc), and Lori Nieuwenhuis (Jared); and his five grandchildren, Lilly, Chase, Cole, Emma, and Alexa. His legacy of love, integrity, and service will live on through them and through the many friends and colleagues who were fortunate to know him.

Don will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and unwavering dedication to both his family and his community. He will be deeply missed, but his influence and example will continue to inspire all who knew him.
