Donna started taking piano lessons when she was 4 from her mother, who was a piano teacher. When Donna was 11 she played with the Wilshire-Ebell Philharmonic. Donna skipped 2 grades in school and graduated from Eagle Rock High School in Eagle Rock, CA. She attended Glendale Community College where she studied Accounting and also graduated as a teacher from the LA Conservatory of Music and Arts. She studied with a teacher there named Madame Zuniga who had been a student of the French classical composer Claude Debussy. Debussy was Donna’s specialty and he is the first composer she said she’d like to meet in Heaven.
Donna married Lloyd Stovall and they had 2 children; Gregg and Paula. The family moved to Yakima, WA where Donna began teaching and had many piano students. After 6 years, the family relocated to the Everett area and Donna worked in accounting for a few different companies. In 1981 she remarried and in 1988, she landed a job at the Everett Public Library where she worked her way up to being the Assistant to the Administrator. She was in charge of a multi-million dollar budget and was instrumental in the major remodeling project of the downtown main library. She had many inputs in making the library state of the art in technology as well as being beautiful and inviting inside. She absolutely loved that job and was there for 26 years before retiring.
After retiring from the City of Everett she wanted to stay busy so she turned back to her greatest passion which was teaching and playing piano. She enjoyed playing for her church at North Creek Presbyterian and playing for the many events at MorningStar such as the Veteran’s Day Program, other holiday festivities and holding student recitals. Donna continued teaching up until the week before she passed away.
She is survived by her two children; Gregg Stovall (Jane), Paula Black (Keith). 3 grandchildren, Drew Black (Rebecca), Marissa Black and Hannah Black. 3 other children called her Grandma as well, Sara Underwood (Simon), Danielle Pittman, and Brittany Loran. Donna also had 2 great-granddaughters Mollie and Mildred.
Donna had a soft spot for her furry cat friends. She always had at least a couple of rescued cats throughout her life and had the most unusual names for them with her current cats named Molly-Many-Toes and Ellifiknow (Ella)
Donna wanted it to be known that she cherished all the friends at MorningStar Silver Lake, North Creek Presbyterian Church and the families of the many students she taught. All gave her joy.
