Earl Thomas Ibsen of Everett Washington passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at the age of 101. Earl was born in New Underwood, South Dakota to Rueben and Lydia Ibsen on September 13, 1919. The second of seven sons and one daughter, Earl had to assume responsibilities at an early age. He and his brothers rode daily by horseback to the small country school house several miles from their home. In the eighth grade, he attended a boarding school during the week. In 1935, the family home burned down and the family moved to Marysville, Washington where Earl attended Marysville High School and graduated in 1938. After graduation, Earl got a job with Reinell Boat Works which was located on Ebey Slough in Marysville. A week after the attack at Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army. After training as an airplane mechanic, he was stationed with the 1266th AAF North African Division.
At the end of the war, Earl went back to work for Reinell and finished over 40 years with them. When they went out of business he was able to work for Boeing until he retired. As an example of his work ethic, he was awarded Boeing employee of the month.
Earl met the love of his life Mildred Holcomb at a dance hall in Bothell and they were married on April 23, 1948. Earl and Millie loved to fish and hunt and instilled that love in their four children, Sandra, Thomas, Bill and Katie. Earl loved to fish for steelhead, salmon, trout and perch. He hunted for deer, elk, ducks and pheasants. He was also very proud of the gorgeous dahlias and begonias he grew with the help of Katie.
Earl is survived by his sons Thomas (and Jann) Ibsen and Bill (and Carol) Ibsen; his daughter Katie (and Andrew) Erickson; grandchildren Paul Ibsen, Carrie McLaglen, Benjamin Ibsen, Scott Ibsen, Amanda Wilson, Jeffrey Ibsen, Stuart Ibsen, Jennifer Stout and Steven Ibsen; great-grandchildren Eric McLaglen, Alicia Holland, Jamen McLaglen, Reece McLaglen, Aurora Wilson, Ariel Wilson, McKenna Ibsen, Kaiden Ibsen, Jacinth Wilson, Jasmine Wilson, Zedasia Smith, Araya Ibsen, Stella Stout, Walter Stout, Rocco Ibsen, and Milo Ibsen; great-great-grandchild Emma Holland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mildred; his daughter Sandra; and his siblings, George, Bert, Harold, Pearl, Ray, Jess and Jerry.
A special thank you to the people at The Terrace at Beverly Lake for the outstanding care and compassion Earl received and for their support.
