Born to Nels Lunde and Kathryn Townsend, Gretchen was a lifelong Washingtonian whose warmth, resilience, and love for the outdoors touched everyone she met. She will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her passion for gardening, and her adventurous spirit.
Gretchen found joy in the simple beauty of the world around her. Her green thumb was legendary among friends and neighbors, and she spent countless hours tending to her garden. It was her sanctuary—a living testament to her patience, care, and dedication.
She also had a deep love for traveling, often seeking out new landscapes and experiences that enriched her soul. Whether exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest or venturing farther afield, Gretchen embraced each journey with curiosity and gratitude.
She dedicated many years of her life to Rockport State Park, where she worked in maintenance until her retirement. Her connection to nature was evident not only in her work but also in her personal passions. She found great fulfillment in running a campground on her own property, where she welcomed guests with the same kindness and care she showed her family. Her home was a haven of blooming flowers, laughter, and love.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Kathryn Lunde, and her brothers, Leon and Nels Eugene Lunde. She is survived by her children—daughter Brenda Stewart and sons Dana, Nathan, and Clair—as well as five cherished grandchildren.
Her legacy lives on in the gardens she nurtured, the family she adored, the places she explored, and in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
