18,2016. He was born, 10/10/39, in Wadena, Minnesota to Glenn and Nina Forsberg.
His family lived on a five acre farm at the top of Cavaliers Hill. As the oldest of five children responsibilities
were given him at a young age and he talked of; stoking the wood furnace, milking the family cow, and
plowing the strawberry fields. He developed a life long strong work ethic, dependability and had high moral
standards. He was a strong man who gave his all and expected others to do the same.
He graduated from Lake Stevens High School with the class of 1957. Harlen attended WSU, graduated
with a bachelors degree in agricultural economics, and was an enthusiastic Cougar fan.
He enjoyed a successful career with Equitable Life Assurance as a mortgage lender and farm appraiser for
over 30 years. Starting in the Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin, his territory increased until it contained
all of Washington and parts of Oregon. He was proud of never having a foreclosure; always giving capable
assistance to farmers with financial difficulties.
He married his teenage sweetheart, Carol Morton. They shared 54 years married and best friends and were
blessed with three children. He was known for his dry humor and quick wit. He valued solitude and was
generous with his time and talents, so had many good friends. Harlen was twice a Kiwanis President and
believed in community service. Harlen was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting --"Got your deer yet?",
camping, skiing, fishing and tennis. An involved father, he instilled this love of the outdoors in his three
children.
In retirement Harlen concentrated on gardening, skills of sailing his boat, the Hanalee, and woodworking.
He made yearly travels, visited many countries, and especially liked visiting Sweden. Harlen enjoyed his
1957 Thunderbird which he showed at high school homecomings, several parades and drove on a scenic trip
to the Napa Valley. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WSU Beach Watchers and
Mukilteo Yacht Club.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol; daughters Katey and husband Paul Hakes; Jenny and finance
Tom Elder; and son, Andy and wife Jill Campbell;
five grandchildren; Riley, Gavin, Kameron , Oliver, and Georgia;
