After a hard-fought battle with cancer, James (Jim) Marcus Egge went home to be with Jesus on June 6, 2025 at Providence Hospital in Everett, Washington; he was one month shy of his 79th birthday. Jim was born in Mayville, North Dakota on July 7, 1946 to Marcus (Max) and Orva Egge. An only child, “Jimmy” was a much beloved son. During his high school years, Jim was involved in various sports and activities. In 1964, he graduated from Everett High School, met and quickly fell for his future wife, Linda.
At 19 years old, Jim was drafted and served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 in the United States Army where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and an Army Expert Marksmanship Badge.
He and Linda married in 1968 at Beverly Park Community Church. During their 57 years of marriage, they raised their three daughters in the Snohomish area and have always called Snohomish county their home and community. Jim and Linda always kept their yard and gardens beautifully together. Jim mowed and edged, and Linda was the flower gardener.
Jim was a natural athlete and loved all sports, watching and playing. In high school he played golf and baseball, and throughout his life played basketball, golf, softball, he snow skiied, bicycled, and even rode in the Seattle to Portland bike race. Besides his own athletic activities, he also coached his daughters’ softball teams. He enjoyed attending the Snohomish Panther girls and boys basketball games, and supported every sport his daughters and grandchildren participated in.
Jim worked as a Land Use Consultant for Group Four, Inc. in Lynnwood, Washington, before starting his own company in 1989, James Egge & Associates. In the housing and development industry, Jim was known for his hard work, determination, loyalty, leadership, and integrity.
Jim accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in 1981. In his own words, he said he had tried everything to find happiness in this world, and none of it worked. When he surrendered his life to Christ, he found grace, peace, forgiveness, and hope. He and Linda attended Mountain View Community Church for 39 years, where he served as an elder and bible study leader for many years, and had many good friends from Mountain View Church..
Jim was also a substitute teaching leader in Bible Study Fellowship in Everett for over 30 years. BSF was a passion of his; he loved studying scripture with other men, and this really helped grow and deepen his faith in God. He encouraged many men through the years with his interest in the scriptures, and tried to live out his faith in service to God and others instead of himself.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda (Sommer) Egge, their three daughters, Jennifer Doucette (Ben), Tiffany Sturlaugson (Matt), Kimberly Ren (Kyle), and twelve grandchildren and several of their spouses: J.J. Doucette, Katie Doucette, Emma Diaz (Micah), Colten Sturlaugson (Savannah), Grace Yip (Evan), Gunnar Sturlaugson (Ellie), Joshua Ren (Kiara), Trevor Ren, Caitlyn Ren, Lena Ren, Myran Ren, and Laura Ren.
Many thanks to the staff at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle as well as Providence Hospital. Jim always made a point of learning his care providers’ names (from the doctors, nurses, to the x-ray technicians and office staff). Jim always wanted to know how he could pray for the ones who were taking care of him. The Fred Hutch staff noted they were not supposed to have favorites, but Jim stood out to them as special, they could always count on good stats from the records he kept at home.
His family will miss him dearly, especially Poppy’s wit and humor, storytelling, wise council, #1 fan status at sporting events, his solid Christian leadership in the family and just genuine involvement and support in each of their lives. We look forward to our reunion in Heaven with him again.
A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held at Snohomish Community Church on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. (13622 Dubuque Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290)
Jim memorized a lot of scripture over his lifetime, but one scripture he kept going back to over the last few years was the 23rd Psalm:
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tim and Dar Ratzloff (c/o Mountain View Community Church) or the Everett Gospel Mission.
