James Donald Elmer, age 69, of Everett, passed away on February 12, 2022 at Providence Regional Medical Center following a cardiac event. Jim was born on August 15, 1952, in Lynwood, CA, to Arthur Wilson Elmer and Lila Frances Brown. He was the second oldest of four children to Art and Lila. Jim and his family lived in Downey, CA until they relocated to the View Ridge area of Everett in 1967, where he attended Cascade High School. It was here he met the love of his life Laurie Walton in April of their Senior year. They were inseparable ever since.
After graduating from CHS in 1970, he worked a variety of jobs until joining the Marine Reserves in 1971. He fulfilled his reservist commitment and then joined Pepsi-Cola in 1978, where he worked until he retired in 2013. He was the ultimate 'Pepsi Man' - he wouldn't allow Coca-Cola to be consumed around him. His colleagues at Pepsi were like a second family to him with many friendships he treasured throughout his life. Jim and Laurie married on August 16, 1975 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Everett. Together they raised two sons: Joel and Nick.
Jim was an avid sports fan. He played softball and basketball in his early adulthood before transitioning to coaching his kids in youth sports. He also loved cheering on Seattle sports teams, especially the Seahawks and Mariners. He enjoyed visiting Mariners spring training in Arizona and watching Pac-12 basketball and football. When not cheering on his favorite teams, Jim loved playing card games (especially cribbage and hearts).
Jim loved his family and friends. He enjoyed getting together and "Elmer-izing" people with his conversations. He was a devoted supporter of his kids and grandkids and never missed any of their sporting events. Despite Jim's health challenges during the last decade, he remained optimistic and had a positive outlook on the future. He was a fighter who never complained and enjoyed life to the very end.
Jim is survived by his wife, Laurie of 46 years; his oldest son, Joel and daughter-in-law, Holly; his youngest son, Nick and partner, Jess; two grandchildren, Hudson and Eva; brother, David; sister, Merrilyn; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was loved and respected by those who knew him, friends and family alike.
A celebration of life will be held at Floral Hall at Forest Park, 802 E Mukilteo Blvd #205, Everett, WA 98203 on March 12th from 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, the Elmer family welcomes donations as an expression of sympathy.
