Jan M. Carlson, of Marysville, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 13, 2023, after a long struggle with lung cancer. Jan was born in 1939 in Everett, Washington to Hannah and John Henry Carlson. Her first memory was the birth of her little brother, Thomas George in 1944.
She graduated from Everett High School in 1957, and she studied education at Washington State University. She taught junior high school in the Federal Way District for many years, retiring in 1995. Jan has always been particularly fond of her dogs, and her doctors and store clerks got used to seeing her with her support dog.
Jan was preceded in death by her partner of 29 years, Peggy Severson. She and Peggy enjoyed adventures with friends and family, such as fishing, playing golf, camping at Alder Lake and touring the country in their motorhome.
Jan is survived by her nephews, John and James Carlson; stepson, Gordon Severson; stepdaughter, Cindy Severson; step-granddaughters, Kaylene Schultz and Kelli Ratliff and several step-great-grandchildren. Last year, Kaylene asked Jan to move into her home for the last few months of Jan’s life.
