With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Afman, who went to be with Jesus at the age of 91. She left this world surrounded by the love of her family on January 21, 2025 in Everett, Washington.
Jean was born in the town of Bedum, Netherlands, on July 24th,1933. Her journey through life took her from the idyllic landscapes of Holland to Canada in 1964. There, she laid the foundation for a new chapter, embracing the rich tapestry of life that awaited her in North America. Eventually, Jean and her family found their way to the United States, where Everett, Washington became their home.
A member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Everett for over 50 years, Jean’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She had formed strong bonds within the church community. Her faith was ever-present, guiding her and providing solace throughout her life.
She was a dedicated homemaker, pouring her heart and soul into creating a warm and loving environment for her family. She had a special, unconditional love for her husband children. Her nurturing spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark, one that her family will hold dear for generations to come.
Among her many enjoyments, Jean found peace and happiness in the simple pleasure of knitting with her dear sister, Greta. Time spent together, weaving memories and laughter into every stitch, was a cherished pastime that brought her immense joy.
She leaves behind a family who adored her, cherished friends, and a church family that will miss her deeply. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to be long remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her son, John and daughter Cora (Chris) and grandchildren Joshua and Nathan (Ericka), Sisters Gretta Groenewold and Fennie Korthius and Ken and Linda Buist and their family who were lovingly embraced by Jean and her husband, Theo, inviting them in as one of their own.
Her family, while mourning her loss, finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, enveloped in the eternal embrace of her Savior. They invite all who knew her to celebrate Jean’s life and to share in the warmth of her memory, as they remember the beautiful journey of a remarkable woman.
