John W King passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018, at the age of 97. He was born August 9, 1920 in Oklahoma, the 4th of 5 children. He was the son of Henry and Leona King. The family moved near Fresno, California when John was a year old and then moved to Marysville, WA in 1925. They lived on a farm and John helped care for the animals and also worked at neighboring farms when he wasn’t in school.
He graduated from high school in 1939 and took an electric trade class. He began work for the phone company and worked there until his retirement. In 1945, he was trained in aviation engineering in the Navy. He met his future wife, Billie, while briefly taking ballroom dance lessons and they were married in 1940. They lived together until her death in 2016.
John was baptized into Delta Community Baptist Church in Everett on Nov. 18, 1951 and served as a deacon there. He is remembered as a kind, quiet person, loving husband and father. He enjoyed amateur radio – built his own set and was able to reach New Zealand! After retiring he enjoyed playing golf with fellow retirees.
They had three children. The oldest, Carol, passed away in 1999. John is survived by two daughters – Leslie and Barbara, and 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Thank you to Harvey and Maxine Brinks who lovingly cared for them in their waning years.
