Joseph Myron Greenleaf
April 9, 1930 – May 3, 2021
Joe passed away Monday evening, May 3, 2021 at home with 4 generations of family surrounding him.
Funeral Services to be held Monday, May 17, 12:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, Cemetery Chapel 4504 Broadway, Everett WA 98201. Reception to follow at the Greenleaf Family Home.
Joe and his twin sister Geraldine (Jerry) were born to Bertha Lambert Greenleaf and John Greenleaf at their home, in the Marshland Area of Snohomish, on April 9, 1930.
Joe started school at Marshland School K-6 and then moved to Snohomish Schools. In Jr. High, he started playing Basketball continuing through High School. He was Snohomish High Schools' "PERKY GUARD" known for his extremely Long Shots. He was referred to as "Jumping Joe" in the local papers. In later years he was listed in the top 5 Basketball Players in Snohomish during Principal & Coach Stan Bates' Tenure.
Joe then worked at his parents Machine Shop (Everett Sound Machine Works) until he was drafted into the Army, Korean Conflict, March 27, 1951. He was sent to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland for his basic training. He was then sent to Allied Institute of Tech, for Machinists, in Chicago, Illinois. In November 1951, he was sent to Korea as a PFC to manage a machine shop where he was upgraded to Corporal, serving as a machinist until his discharge March 17, 1953. While serving in Korea, Joe was awarded both the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
In September 1953 Joe married Barbara Olson, of Snohomish, whom he dated since January 1949.
Joe was a long time Everett Business Man, moving his family to Everett from Snohomish in 1959. He and his brother Jack purchased the family business, Everett Sound Machine Works, from their Mother Bertha Greenleaf in the early 1960's. He worked everyday, until he was forced to retire in his 80's.
Joe was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting ducks, geese, pheasants, deer, elk and golf balls. He enjoyed playing golf with all his friends and business associates a couple times a week.
Joe spent many years coaching the VFW, Little League Baseball Team in South Everett. Players were rewarded for playing a fair game with milkshakes from Herfy's on Broadway in the back of his OLD 1950 "ish" Ford Pick Up.
Joe is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Olson Greenleaf, son Michael (Mike) Greenleaf (Lisa), daughters, Lori Greenleaf Evans, and Kim Greenleaf Temple ( a e); Grandchildren Brook Archey Davis (Charles), Andrew Archey, Nicole Evans, Kristi Evans Olney (Jamen), Courtney Evans Fox (Logan), Whitney Evans, Bailey Greenleaf Lane (Garrett); Great Grandchildren Jadon Schunneman, Beckett Evans, Shine & Rylee Olney, Skylar Cross, Evelyn Lane and Winter Fox; His twin sister Geraldine (Jerry) Greenleaf Dick and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceded in death by his parents John & Bertha Greenleaf, his brothers CA. Allen Greenleaf and children, (daughter Holley Greenleaf Ross and son John Greenleaf), Jack Greenleaf and wife Dorothy Little Greenleaf; Son in Laws, Frank Archey and Terry Evans.
