Larry O Hillis was born August 30, 1939, in Clatskanie Oregon and passed away on May 19, 2024. While we are heartbroken and saddened that he is gone, we celebrated this wonderful man 84 spirited years of age.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Veralene of 49 years, his children Darlene, Marilyn (Dave), Dan (Dusty), Pam (Dale), Deena (Craig), 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. Larry outlived his son Rodney and his late parents Melvin & Azilee Hillis.
Larry graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1957 and become a meat cutter for Albertsons in Lynnwood, before his long & illustrious career in land development and home building. Larry started Hillis Homes which became the state’s largest home building companies. He was an incredible family man and leaves a legacy throughout the construction and business world. Larry was a past director for Metropolitan Savings & Loan and Past President of the Master Builders Association
Larry’s other love was his equestrian ranch in Ellensburg where he raised thoroughbred racehorses, winning several times at Longacres, Emerald Downs, and other racetracks throughout the country. He was also on the Board for the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) and was owner of the year at Emerald Downs Racetrack.
Larry will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful family man and a great community member.
