Sunset: October 15, 2013
Born the fourth of five children in Madison WI, March 12, 1930, to Edward Withers Sr. and Willie Jo Walker Mamie Lee (Withers) Jones “Granny” went home to her eternal rest October 15, 2013 after a long illness. A graduate of Central High School in Madison and a two year student at the University of Wisconsin, Granny’s desire to travel the world was realized after her marriage to John Lawrence Jones Sr. a career soldier in 1954. With their children John Jr. and Mary Ellen they went from Spain to Germany to New York and New Mexico where her ability to be at home in any environment was readily apparent. Our Guardian Angel – Granny - was always the first to arrive, and the last to leave, when tragedy struck.
Relocating after her son’s death in 1999 from Tampa, Florida Granny called Everett, WA home until her passing. Granny leaves behind her daughter and best friend Mary E. Butler and husband King, of Everett, WA; grandchildren Lamar Ford (Stephanie), Kieve Butler, Aaron-Mykel Butler, Xavier Fareed, Sierra Fareed, Shani Fareed and Amanda St. Louis; great grandchildren Marquell Rashawn Butler; Israel Sebastian Ford and Gabrielle Alysse Jenkins; her “precious” Sharanne Moon Bridges (George), Evelyn Atkins (Ira), and Dwight Withers (Jocelyn); along with a legion of family members and friends, to forever remember her devotion to us and honor her compassion for all.
Greeting Granny in heaven are her beloved son John Jr., former husband John Sr.; her parents Edward Withers Sr. and Willie Jo Walker; her sisters Birtha Bothwell (Howard) and Willie Jo Lewis (George); her brothers Edward Withers Jr. (Oletha Withers Pepper); and William (Babe) Withers (Elaine). Granny was fiercely loyal and unapologetic about her love of God, family and friends.
