

It is with heartfelt sorrow and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Jeanette Carter on September 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on November 26, 1934, in Hope, Arkansas, Marie was the cherished daughter of William and Jessie Mae Jackson. Her life was a tapestry of love, faith, and devotion, woven through her years as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend.
Marie was predeceased by her devoted husband of 56 years, Olson Carter, her dear sisters Cozetta Hartfield and Mae Frances Wilkerson, and her brother John O. Jackson. She is lovingly survived by her son Larry Darnell Carter and his wife Deborah, her stepson Rondell Carter, and her grandchildren Dante Reese, Wendy Reed, Lauren Fiongos, and Matthew Carter. Marie was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Her legacy is also carried on by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends who adored her.
A proud graduate of David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles, California, Marie pursued a career as a licensed cosmetologist, dedicating 30 years to bringing beauty and confidence to her clients along side her best friend Evelyn Travis. Her professional life was paralleled by her dedication to her faith, as she was a devoted member of several church families, including Faithful St. Mark in Los Angeles, California, First Missionary Baptist Church in Banning, California, Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, and more recently, Greater Trinity Church in Everett, Washington. Her faith was her cornerstone, and it was important to Marie to always have a church home.
Marie had a zest for life that was evident in her love for fishing, and the great outdoors. Marie had an unparalleled passion for gospel music. Marie was known for her culinary skills, especially her famous collard greens and hot water cornbread, made gatherings at her home memorable events. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and love, where family and friends were always welcome.
Marie was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her deep love for the Lord and her family was the guiding force in her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Marie Jeanette Carter will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. The faith that carried her will carry us, and her memory will be cherished forever.
