Her Everett and Lake Stevens homes, a vase of pale colored sweet peas, Elvis songs, her dogs, and any time spent on, near, or enjoying a view of water were the life-long pleasures that brought a smile to Mary's face. But nothing, absolutely nothing, thrilled her like sitting on the couch with her then very young and beloved grandchildren snuggled up under her arms as she read to them. Mary died March 12th, after an agonizingly slow demise with Alzheimer's disease. But that struggle is the last thing Mary would want anyone to ever discuss or recall about her life.
Mary Walsh Johnson was born on April 17, 1942, to Harold and Evelyn Walsh of Everett, Washington. She attended Immaculate Conception, Everett High School, and Washington State University.
Mary was a High School senior when she met her beloved husband, Alan Johnson. They enjoyed a long and wonderful marriage for 57 years. Much of the joy centered around their children, Molly and Brad Sonne, Brenden and Cindy Johnson, Brian Johnson and Sarah Weber and her six grandchildren; Bailey and Chloe Sonne, Tate, Sam, Ben, and Alison Johnson. Mary's sister, Judy, resides in Sausalito, Ca. with her two sons, Peter and Jason Langkammerer and her grandchildren, Whit, James, Beckett, Jack and Ollie Langkammerer. Judy's husband, Jerry, preceded her in death on 2003.
"In Good Taste", Mary's catering company for seventeen years, brought joy to Mary and immense satisfaction to her client's weddings, luncheons, corporate dinners, and holiday festivities. Mary loved her "family business" and while her family shared that enthusiasm, as they helped with shopping, transporting, setting up and taking down, they would all attest that her catering was a back-breaking endeavor. Perhaps it was her Irish Walsh heritage that brought with it energy, drive, talent, and passion.
Mary delighted with her friends in her morning walks along Mukilteo Boulevard, Assistance League, Providence General Children's Association, the Everett Cultural Commission, the aptly named, "Holy Mothers of St. John's" (their Catholic Parish in Mukilteo where the collective talents and energies of those women turned every funeral, wedding, and christening, into an event not to be missed).
Mary will be honored at St. John's Mission Church, 829 3rd Street, Mukilteo, on Saturday, March 25th at 11 am with a reception to follow downstairs. A private family internment will take place at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Everett, Washington
The family wants to thank Quail Park of Lynnwood, for all the care and support they gave both Mary and Alan these past eight years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) or the Providence Children's Association.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Evergreen-FH.com for the Johnson family.
