Newton “Scooter” Hart Waldrop , 86, passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2023 in Everett, WA.
Newton was born November 26, 1936 in Everett, WA. His parents were Newt and Gladys Waldrop. He grew up in Everett, WA and attended Kings High School and Seattle Bible School. While attending Kings High School, he met the love of his life, Kay Kibbey. They were married on June 30, 1956.
Newton’s unwavering dedication to the Lord began in his youth. He began his role as Pastor, with his wife Kay, in 1958. Over a remarkable 65-year tenure, he faithfully ministered to Gospel Light Church in Everett, WA. Pastor Newt’s ministry extended beyond the pulpit, as he shared the love of Jesus with countless individuals, from church members, friends, acquaintances, and the wider community. He led with a heart of love, humility and generosity to all those who he embraced with the love of Jesus.
Committed to sharing the gospel based in Biblical truth, he held firm to the motto, “Preach the Word.” His faithfulness extended to his family, church, and community, while also supporting local service, national and international missions. He persistently helped others find their path to Jesus.
God blessed Newton and Kay with 5 children and is survived by his son, Daniel Waldrop (Nell); his daughter, Cyndi Lee (Doug); and his son, Kevin Waldrop (Heidi). Grandpa “Scoot” loved his grandchildren; Jared Waldrop, Johnathan Waldrop, Jordan Lee, Jeffrey Lee, Carly Sheldon, Kaytlin Waldrop, 14 great grandchildren and his niece Jo Ann Clark. His dachshund, Buddy, was his loyal companion.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Kay of 59 years, and sons, Jeffrey and Rodney; his parents Newt and Gladys Waldrop; and his sister Virginia Twedt.
Our dad and grandpa will be profoundly missed. We will cherish every memory and his deep love for us. His love for God will live on in our families hearts and the numerous lives he touched. He will be fondly remembered as our dad, grandpa, uncle, friend, and Pastor.
Our family would like to thank Gospel Light Church, Evergreen Funeral Home, the local community, extended family and friends across the United States for loving care, support, encouragement and prayers.
A visitation for Newton will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett WA .
A Celebration of Newton's life will be held at Gospel Light Church, 2801 Rockefeller Ave, Everett, WA on Saturday November 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest beside Kay, his loving wife, in a private burial.
