

Lou was born in Yakima Washington, graduated from Yakima High School, graduated from Washington State University in 1949 with a degree in Sociology & Psychology. Lou later received her master’s degree in Sociology at Washington State University, Class of 1968.
Lou began her career as the District Director for Camp Fire Girls of America in Oakland, CA staying in that position for three years then transitioning to Executive Director in Snohomish County for 21 years.
Once moving to Everett Washington in 1968, Lou continued her career with Camp Fire as Executive Director of Snohomish County leading a team of 30 members in community involvement including but not limited to Camp Killoqua, Day camp, finance programs and the membership committee. Lou retired from the Camp Fire organization in 1989 after serving 40 years.
In Lou’s later years she joined Rotary Club of Everett which she remained an active member until her passing. Some additional organizations that Lou was involved in included Everett Chamber of Commerce, City of Everett Transportation Advisory Committee, Edmonds Community College Volunteer program & the Juvenile Justice advisory board.
Lou was the first recipient of the Health & Human Services Providers Award presented by the United Way. Lou was also the recipient of an eponymous award the “Lou Denney Award” presented by the Snohomish Council of Campfire. This award is still bestowed upon local community members today.
Lou served at Providence Hospital as a volunteer for 25 years. She enjoyed being an usher and greeter at the Everett Village Theater, Everett community schools & Driftwood players.
Lou was a proud member of First Presbyterian Church, Everett first joining the congregation when she moved to the area in 1968. Remaining a faithful member all her life.
It’s safe to say Lou enjoyed supporting the local community here in Everett. Lou truly embodied the meaning of “WOHELO” the official symbol for Camp Fire representing hearth, family & community.
