

Panos (Pete) Constantine Koutlas, born in Everett, WA on August 20, 1928, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2016 with his loved ones at his side. A respected and quiet leader of the Everett community, Pete managed the family business, Farmers Garden Center, from 1953 until his retirement in 2000. Pete was a graduate of Everett High School and Washington State University. Upon graduation from WSU, he joined the US Army and was proud to serve his country during the Korean War.
Pete was actively involved in the Everett community as a youth, and throughout his life provided unselfish dedication to numerous civic organizations. An Eagle Scout, he later served as a Council Commissioner of the Evergreen Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He was the Charter President of the Evergreen Kiwanis Club, Vice President of the Saint Demetrios Church Parish Council, served on the City of Everett Planning Commission, a member of the 4-H Advisory Committee, advisor to the Everett School District Horticulture Department, Board member of the Luther Child Center and of the United Way. Intensely proud of his Greek heritage, Pete promoted Hellenism as a longtime member and President of the Everett Chapter of the Order of Ahepa. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Everett Elks Club. A loyal Cougar fan, Pete was a Lifetime Platinum member of the Cougar Club.
Pete's kindness and affection for his family was extraordinary. Pete had enormous respect and a deep love for his wife of 62 years, Toula, from whom he was seldom separated. He was proud of his son Dean, daughter Lynne (Douglas) Varey and his beloved grandchildren, Panos, Gus and Helen. Pete and Toula's grown children and grandchildren remained paramount throughout Pete's life. Family dinners and family vacations brought Pete great joy and happiness. Pete also leaves behind his sister-in-law Margo, nephews Ted (Natalie), Gabriel (Stacey) and niece Alexis and many other cousins, nephews, nieces and cherished friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, C.P. and Dialekti Koutlas, and his brother Fotis.
A man of great character, honesty, integrity and humor, Pete will be profoundly missed. May his Memory be Eternal.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Trisagion service Monday, May 30, 7:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway Avenue, Everett. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, 11:00 am at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2100 Boyer Avenue E, Seattle 98112, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, Everett. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
