A lifelong fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks, Russell never missed a game. He was a proud Seahawks season ticket holder and even worked as an usher for the Mariners after retiring, sharing his love of the game with fellow fans. Even during the rough seasons, he never wavered in his loyalty, and we’re sure he’s still cheering from above, jersey proudly on. And of course, he’s still waiting patiently for the Sonics to come back.
Russell was a devoted husband for 41 years, a proud father to two children, and grandfather to five grandchildren who filled his life with joy and laughter. He loved to travel, chasing his grandchildren around the globe, and also shared his passion for sports by coaching their flag football team. Affectionately called “the saint” by his mother-in-law, Russell was known for his warmth, humor, and generosity, and had a way of making everyone feel included and valued.
In lieu of flowers, donations to UW Medical Center or Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center would be greatly appreciated, continuing a legacy of care and kindness that defined his life.
